How to build an effective team

Assembling an effective team requires more than just compiling a set of talented individuals. It also means to make them work as a unit. A leader is someone who can pick out the most effective ways to utilise the potential of his/her team. What are the essential elements of organising a team?

Let us have look at some of them

Assembling the Team:

Gathering the personnel with utmost talent is pivotal in building an effective team. But what’s rather most crucial is to have a vision of each member’s potential contribution & it’s requirements in the team. A motivated set of hard working talented individuals will work wonders for any team.

Define the purpose:

The first thing to do is to set a purpose for the team to achieve. Let the collective group be clear about the purpose each of them has to serve for the team. Also the collective purpose of the team should be well communicated to each individual. Any team with definitive purpose will collectively deliver a better outcome.

Set Goals:

Just like the Poker Sequence, let the team flow. Set goals for the team. Break the larger vision into smaller parts & hand out the tasks to the required team members. Set smaller, more effective goals for the team. Have the whole team collectively move towards achieving the bigger goals.

Set Expectations:

Build a standard of conduct for the team. Make sure the entire team is on the same note about it. Know your team members. Specify a time boundation for each task assigned to every member of the team. The working capacity of the team may vary, keep pushing them towards achieving their targets.

Observe your team:

Monitor the work done by the team regularly. Having a check on the progress by calling regular meetings & maintaining good communication with the members is also vital. This makes sure that progress is being made & also to check on the team competency.

Celebrate with the team:

A team that eats together, succeeds together. Celebrate with the team. Organise festive events for the members, let them bond within themselves. Creating a happy atmosphere around the people you work with is a great productivity booster. As a leader, it is your responsibility to maintain your employees’ work efficiency.

Coordinate In Tough Times:

A team is supposed to stand together through thick & thin. In the event of any event that may postpone the working capability of the members, it is crucial to think about their well-being foremost. Stay communicated with them.

The recent case of the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 has seen a lot of chaos among people all over the world. Good management becomes key in such a situation. Shutting down offices & making arrangements for the team to practice remote working or work from home criteria has reflected how the health of the team members is crucial & how teams can stay communicated through pandemic times.

To make an effective team is one part of the job. To maintain their effectiveness is another. A team would stay working strong for a long time only when their work does not affect their mental wellbeing. Make sure the team members are not overloaded with work. Allow leisure time. Organise events like office poker & teach them about poker rankings. Find creative ways to always keep your team motivated.
